TEMPO.CO, Semarang - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo explained Indonesia's ongoing economic and legal reforms to Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
President Jokowi and Prime Minister Lee met on Monday, November 14, 2016, for a bilateral meeting at Wisma Perdamaian in Semarang. The meeting was held to discuss several key issues, including improving economic relations.
"In the meeting, I explained Indonesia's ongoing economic and legal reforms in a bid to boost our economic competitiveness," Jokowi said, as quoted by Antara news agency.
Jokowi said that Singapore is one of Indonesia’s key partners in trade and investment, adding that despite the ongoing global economic slowdown, Singapore continues to increase its investments in Indonesia.
"Throughout January to September 2016, Singapore’s investments in Indonesia reached US$7.1 billion, 44 percent higher compared to the same period last year," Jokowi said.
During a press conference after the meeting, PM Lee said that the meeting provides an opportunity for the two countries to discuss in stepping up relationship.
