Using Social Media for Profit are Subject to Taxation: Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Tax at the Finance Ministry, Ken Dwijugiasteadi, said that those using social media to make profit are also subject to taxation. "They are obliged to pay income tax," he said.
Ken added that online store owner and product endorsers are also categorized as tax payers. Moreover, selebgrams and buzers are also charged with taxes, although the amount of tax might be different from one another.
Previously, the Directorate General estimated that the online and endorsement activities have the potential of US$ 1.2 billion worth of tax.
The Directorate General itself is now working to assess the mechanism to implement the taxes, and the amount of the tax.
