TEMPO.CO, Nusakambangan - Nila, a relative of death row convict Michael Titus Igweh, filed an objection against the execution plan that will be carried out soon. She told journalists that Titus’ family had not received the official letter and court register related to the execution.
Nila came to the Nusakambangan Prison Security and Order Office at the Wijaya Pura Dock. Nila said that she came to provide a statement before media, instead of visiting Titus.
“The [legal] process is still ongoing. But suddenly, [Titus] is on the execution list. We’re trying to get to President Jokowi,” Nila said on Thursday, July 28, 2016.
Nila claimed that the Attorney General Office [AGO] seemed to keep the family in the dark regarding Titus’ case. According to her, Titus was included on the execution list during the process of the appeal of the second judicial review with the Tangerang District Court. Nila said that she found out about the execution on July 22, 2016 through the news.
“[We] also didn’t receive about the isolation period,” she added.
Titus is a Nigerian national imposed with death penalty for possessing 5.8 kilograms of heroin back in 2003. In 2011, Titus filed a judicial review, which was later rejected by the Supreme Court. In June 2016, he appealed for another judicial review.
Nila explained that Titus had asked her to demand justice for him in Indonesia. In addition, she said that Titus wanted to see his wife, children, and other relatives.
“He’s a human, not an animal. We hope that the leaders can open their heart,” she said.
Nila revealed that Titus’ wife, Valencia, who is also her sister, is expected to arrive in Cilacap from West Africa on Friday, July 28, 2016. Nila said that both of them visit Indonesia once in two years.
