Jakarta Deputy Governor Urges Public to Support Odd-Even Policy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat has on the public to support the trial of the odd-even registration plate policy on a number of thoroughfares in the capital.

"The odd-even system is our attempt at reducing [traffic] congestion in Jakarta. Therefore, we ask the public to support the trial of the [policy]," Djarot said as quoted by Antaranews on Tuesday, July 26, 2016.

Djarot expressed his optimism that the policy will be able to reduce the number of vehicles and traffic jams on Jakarta streets.

"Don't be pessimistic. It has yet to be tried, so don't be pessimistic. The most important thing is to do trial first. We will know the results later, and then we will do an evaluation," Djarot said.

The odd-even policy trial will takes place on July 27 to August 26, 2016. After the end of the trial period, the policy will came into force on August 30, 2016.

The policy will be implemented on Monday to Friday from 7:00 am to 10:00 am Western Indonesia Time, and 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Western Indonesia Time. The policy will not be implemented on Saturday, Sunday and during national holidays.

The policy will be implemented on Jalan Merdeka Barat, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Sisingamangaraja and some parts of Jalan Gatot Subroto (Kuningan intersection to Gerbang Pemuda).
