TEMPO.CO, Kupang - Police officials of Belu, East Nusa Tenggara, confiscated 3,380 fuel ready to be smuggled to Timor Leste on Monday, April 25, 2016.
"During an operation, we found 3,380 liters of kerosene, Premium fuel, and Solar [diesel fuel] ready to be smuggled to Timor Leste," said Adj. Sr. Comr. Dewa Putu Gede Artha, Belu Chief of Police on Monday, April 25, 2016.
The smuggled fuel was stashed away under bushes in a residential area located on the Indonesia-Timor Leste border. "We have suspected several people, but we are still investigating the case," Dewa said.
The fuel was found after several residents filed a report on suspected fuel hoarding by people living near the border area. Local residents previously refused to give police access to search through their village. Nevertheless, the police continue to search for evidence.
"The evidence found in several houses and in the bushes was about to be smuggled, ether by land or sea," Dewa said.
