OJK Holds Sharia Finance Education Week

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority (OJK), in collaboration with sharia banking and financial industries, holds the 10th iB Vaganza aimed at educating public on the sharia financial industry.
The four-day event, held on September 3 to September 6, 2015, at the Pejaten Village Mall, is a part of a campaign on the sharia financial industry inaugurated by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on June 14, 2015.
Dhani Gunawan, the director for development, regulatory, and licensing of sharia banking at the OJK emphasized the importance of sharia values to prevent usury and unfairness in the banking industry.
"The values must be maintained while promoting other professional activities," Dhani said on Thursday, September 03, 2015.
Data from the OJK revealed that the sharia banking industry consisted of 12 commercial sharia banks, 22 sharia units owned by conventional banks, and 162 rural micro lenders. The total asset of the sharia banking industry had reached Rp 275.494 trillion (US$19.6 billion) with 4.61 percent market share.
