TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Diaspora Network, a network for Indonesians and Indonesian descents living outside the country, awarded an Indonesian Hollywood film maker Livi Zheng with 2015 Diaspora Creative Awards.
“I was surprised. Because there are many other young people with achievements out there,” said Livi when met by Tempo.
Livi directed, produced, and starred Brush with Danger , a film that is screened and distributed in the United States last year. The film depicts a story about siblings who struggle to survive in foreign land.
“Working together with Hollywood film makers, we have to have a strong mentality. Hard criticism would come relentlessly. But I am not giving up,” Livi continued.
The award was handed over at the Third Diaspora Congress which was held in Jakarta earlier this week. The congress also presented Indonesia’s successful public figures such as Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil, Indonesia’s third president B.J. Habibie, and a number of successful businessmen.
