TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rofi Munawar, a member of the House of Representatives Commission IV overseeing agriculture, food, forestry plantation and fisheries and maritime affairs, said that improvement in logistics infrastructure and national stock management would reduce beef prices.
“This is necessary to ensure efficient distribution from producers to consumers,” Rofi said in a press release, as quoted by Antara on Saturday, August 15, 2015.
According to Rofi, the realization such a management would benefit consumers in form of affordable prices, as well as farmers who would be able to maximize their profits.
Rofi explained that beef scarcity occurred simply due to supply and demand imbalance. Such a situation, Rofi added, could recur annually if local beef production was not optimized. As a result, beef imports would become the solution to stabilize the national beef supplies.
“Generally, it would be difficult to restore prices after a hike, unless there was reactionary policies, such as imports and stock issues,” Rofi said.
Beef scarcity and price hike, Rofi said, would continue as long as the price hike was not balanced with changes in terms of production.
