TEMPO.CO, Purwokerto - The dry season that starts more than a month ago, had caused five reservoirs in Central Java to dry said Central Java Head of Water Resources Management (PSDA) in, Prasetyo Budie Yuwono on Tuesday, August 4.
"The five reservoirs that are small reservoirs that under normal conditions only have a maximum water capacity of 10 thousand cubic," he said.
The reservoirs are Brambang, Botok, Gembong in Sragen regency, Gunungrowo in Pati regency and Sanggeh in Grobogan.
According Prasetyo, if still is no rain by the end of August, there will be 15 more reservoirs that will will dry up. However, there are eight reservoirs that will not dry up, even if the flow of water is reduced drastically.
The eight reservoirs are Malahayu in Brebes regency, Cacaban in Tegal regency, Gajahmungkur in Wonogiri, Kedungombo in Grobogan, Sudirman (Mrican) in Banjarnegara, Penjalin in Bumiayu, as well as Wadaslintang and Sempor in Kebumen regency.
However, the reduced water discharge in the eight reservoirs can cause a number of hydroelectric power plants operating in those reservoirs will stop producing electricity.
Prasetyo said, the sluice gates will be opened in October when the growing season is expected to begin, assuming that by then the rainy season would arrive.
