Govt to Give Special Incentives for Geothermal Energy Development

TEMPO.CO, Bandung - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said that the government would give special incentives to the development of geothermal to meet the domestic need of electricity.
According to the President, geothermal energy does not bring much environmental damage.
"In the future, we’ll have to find environmentally friendly electricity plant. That’s what we’re going to prioritize,” Jokowi said in his remarks at the inauguration of Kamojang geothermal-powered electricity plant (PLTP) Unit 5 owned by state-owned oil and gas operator PT Pertamina in Laksana village, Ibun district, Bandung regency on Sunday (5/7).
Jokowi also said that the government would boost investment in the geothermal sector, one of which by the purchase of electricity by state-owned electricity company PT PLN.
However, he said that the government would still the technical matters.
Jokowi further said that the so far, geothermal energy has not been used maximally by the people despite the fact that Indonesia has a big geothermal potential.
"We have geothermal energy potential that reaches 28,000 megawatt,” the President concluded.
