TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Drought and water crisis are predicted to hit several regions in Indonesia although dry season is believed to be less extreme this year. The water crisis will likely to happen in regions which are already lacking of water such as Wonogiri, Purwodadi, Pacitan, Boyolali, along Eastern Java beaches, Tuban, Jawa, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, Lampung, and some parts in Sumatra.
“It is referring to water crisis data of the previous year,” said Syamsuk Maarif, the Head of National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), on Thursday May 28.
Other disasters potentially occur during tthe dry season is wild fire and dry landfarms. There will be hotspots in Sumatra and Kalimantan during June to October. Therefore, preventive steps are continue to be taken in collaboration with Environment Ministry and local Forestry Agency.
Quoting the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), dry season will start in May and June in most of Indonesian regions.
“The peak of dry season is estimated to arrive in September,” Syamsul explained.
