TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Up to 85 percent of air pollutant in Jakarta, as well as in 40 cities in Indonesia, is produced by transportation activities, said climate change and environmental health researcher of the University of Indonesia, dr. Budi Haryanto.
“The number of vehicles is the number one cause,” Budi quoted the Environment Ministry data year 2012.
The lecturer at the Public Health Faculty estimated the air pollution risk in Jakarta will continue high for the next five years because the needs of vehicles and the use of oil fuels continue to increase until 2030.
In addition to the transportation activity, air pollutant can result from the use of fuels, industry, and solid wastes that degrades and produce methane.
