Minister Denies Plastic Rice Machine Presence in Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel said that it is impossible for the plastic rice producing machine to be located in Jakarta. Rachmat said that producing plastic rice will require massive technology. "It is not that easy," Rachmat said on Monday, May 25, 2015.

Previously, Akhmad Benbela, Head of the Industry, Trade and Cooperation Agency (Diserindagkop) in Serang, said that the synthetic rice was made using a machine made in China. Akhmad added that the machine is currently present in Jakarta.

In response to the news, Rachmat plans to coordinate with the Serang trade agency to confirm the presence of the machine. "Maybe it's just a regular molding machine. I don't know," Rachmat said.

In order to debunk the plastic rice issue, the Trade Ministry has coordinated with the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), which is currently investigating the matter.
