TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least 1,988 Indonesian nationals have been returned from Yemen by the Indonesian government through a special operation by a joint team.
The joint team consists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Police and the Indonesian National Defense Forces.
One of the operation members from the Police, Comr. Sr. Krishna Murti said that the operation was carried out at the behest of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
"The operation was done from April 1 to 4, 2015," Krishna said in a press conference at the Headquarters of the Indonesian National Police on Friday, April 24, 2015.
However, he said that due to many barriers on the ground and as requested by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the operation was extended to 19 April 2015. The coverage of the operation, Krishna said, was divided into two biggest regions, the West and the East.
For the West Region, the operation team began from Arab Saudi with the center of the operation in Al Hudaydh city, while for the East Region, the operation team began from Oman with the center of the operation in Salalah city.
"The operation was also supported by a fund of US$10,000,” Krishna concluded.
