Kadin Supports National Products to Boost Exports

24 April 2015 16:34 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) expressed its support for the national brands improvement so they can have a positive impact on Indonesia's export growth.

"We must promote Indonesian brands and refrain from selling non-Indonesian products," Maxi Gunawan, the Permanent Chief Committee of International Cooperation at Kadin, said in a press release on Thursday, April 23, 2015 in Jakarta.

Maxi made the statement in response to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's speech on the potential of Indonesia's exports at the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Jokowi said that the world needs fair, responsible and collective global leadership. According to Jokowi, Indonesia is a new economic power that play a positive role to promote global peace and welfare.

Maxi said that Jokowi's statement serves an encouragement for Indonesian business owners to strengthen ties with their foreign counterpart, particularly those from Asian and African countries. Maxi hoped that Indonesian business owners would prioritize to sell signature domestic products, such as textiles, furniture, food and other creative products.

"Kadin and business owners should live up to the President's expectations," Maxi added.

Maxi also expressed his optimism that Indonesian business owners would provide significant contributions to promote Indonesia as a new economic power. Maxi added that Kadin would be able to optimize the economic potential of the South East Asia before entering Asia-Africa cooperation.
