TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali is well-referred as an island with exotic beaches, which often host thousands of foreign tourists. However, the island offers more than just blue oceans to stare. Balinese culinary turns out to be a glimpse of heavenly taste that both local and foreign tourist should taste.
On my visit to Bali last year, I traveled searching for food in Sanur, Denpasar, and Ubud, indulging myself in four different kinds of dishes that I can never forget.
Fried fish and fish soup
I was in Sanur at Mak Beng Restaurant, close to speedboat departure port. The restaurant offers only two menu, namely fired fish and fish soup, both with an affordable price of Rp88,000.
Balinese mixed rice
Still in Sanur, I had the chance to taste mixed rice at Men (Miss) Weti Restaurant. The dish was served in a large platter on a table, casting vegetables, betutu chicken, fired chicken, satay, chips, egss, and special Balinese chili. The price will depend on what sort of food we pick, with an average of only Rp15,000 per plate.
Nasi Jinggo
In Denpasar, my search took me to Jalan Gajah Mada, well-known for Nasi Jinggo (Jinggo Rice). It is called "jenggo" which means Rp1,500 per pack. The menu, however, now is tagged at Rp3,000. The small pack of Jinggo Rice contains noodle, chicken, and chili.
Ibu Mangku’s Kadewat Rice
In Ubud, at Kadewat Avenue, Ibu Mangku restaurant serves an exciting ambience of exotic Bali. Located in front of Kadewat Temple, you will be served with Balinese Gamelan once you enter the restaurant. I picked mixed rice menu, which cost me only Rp20,000, a highly affordable price for anyone to eat in a Balinese stereotype.
