Pertamina Reveals Reason for Fuel Price Hike

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has announced new prices of Premium and solar (diesel) fuel on Saturday.
State-owned gas and oil operator PT Pertamina said that the new prices had been adjusted to the price of global market index and Rupiah exchange rate against US Dollar.
"The price of global market index for gasoline and gasoil and the exchange rate of Rupiah against US Dollar have significantly increased in the period of the end of January until the end of March 2015 so it affects the price of fuel,” said PT Pertamina Vice President Corporate Communication Wianda Pusponegoro in a written statement.
Based on PT Pertamina data, in the period, the price of global index Premium has increased by 13 percent, while for solar in the same period, the price has increased by 9 percent.
The government has announced new prices of Premium fuel for outside Java, Madura, and Bali, which is at Rp7,300 per liter, while the price of solar is set at Rp6,900 per liter. The price of Premium in Java, Madura, and Bali is set at Rp7,400 per liter.
