TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Services Authority plans to encourage Indonesia's banking institution to apply an integrated credit disbursement for the maritime sector
Mulya E. Siregar, OJK's Deputy Commissioner on Banking Supervision, said that credit facilities in the maritime sector must cover both the upstream and downstream business.
Based on OJK's analysis on banking institutions that disburse credit for the agricultural sector, Mulya set an example if a corn farmer wishes to apply for a credit, the bank would first examine the seed and fertilizer provider, and prospective buyer of the final product.
Mulya also set an example of the state-owned bank Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) experience in disbursing credit for the agricultural sector. BRI signs an agreement with the seed provider, fertilizer provider, and buyers of the final product to gain assurance before disbursing the credit funds.
"Such experience must also be applied in the maritime [sector], starting from building ships, building fish auction facilities, availability of cold storage, until the product is ready to be marketed, the bank see it as a whole process. [OJK] will encourage banks to follow BRI footsteps," Mulya said.
Muliaman D. Hadad, Chief of the OJK’s Board of Commissioners, said that OJK will involve non –banking financial institutions to encourage bank to disburse more credits for the maritime sector.
