TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lazarus, Deputy Chairman of the Transportation Committee of the People’s Representative Council (DPR), believed that the action taken by Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan towards Lion Air is appropriate "Its the right thing to do. Now how do you fix it in order not to happen again," Lazarus told Tempo on Monday, February 23, 2015.
According to Lazarus, if Jonan gives the airline a more severe sanction, such revoking their business permit, the aviation sector would be adversely affected and ticket fares could rapidly increase.
Minister Jonan has also imposed a sanction towards Lion Air by banning the airline to expand its business, including suspending permission to open new routes. After the sanctions were given, the government should be able to create a more stringent regulation in order to prevent passengers from being neglected.
Previously, flight observer Dudi Sudibyo had argued that Minister Jonan favors Lion Air compared to other airlines.
