TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - As many as 200 batik typical to culture of Indonesian Chinese descent is set to be exhibited to celebrate 2566 Imlek or the Chinese New Year at Taman Anggrek Mall, Jakarta, until March 1.
“We want to show that batik from Chinese decent culture are also attractive and unique in Cheongsam style,” said an owner of batik, Tomi in Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted by Antara News.
Tomi said that “Cheongsam” batik is a fusion between Indonesian batik with the design of China’s traditional attire.
In addition to the design, the Batik often printed with flora and fauna motifs typical to Chinese culture such as Peony, egret and dragon. Some of the batik are made in bright red colors identical to Imlek celebration. The birght red colors resemble happiness according to the Chinese culture.
The batik is said to be sold at price ranging from Rp400,000 to Rp450,000.
“We hope that people would enjoy the exhibition promoting the ‘Peranakan Prosperity’,” said Elvira Indriasari the Promotion Manager of PT Mulia Intipelangi, management of Taman Anggrek Mall.
