TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that floods hit ten sub-districts in Dompu Regency and Woja Regency in West Nusa Tenggara.
As a result, thousand of homes were inundated.
"At least 4,000 homes were inundated by floodwater of up to 4 meter,” said Head of BNPB Information Data and Public Relations Division Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.
Sutopo added that the floods were caused by water overflowing from nearby rivers such as Laju, Silo, Soa, Raba Baka, and Toi rivers after heavy rain for hours.
In the meantime, Bima Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), the National Police, the Social Affairs Ministry's Disaster Response Teams (Tagana), Dompu BPBD, and the residents have evacuated affected residents to mosques, schools and places not affected by the floods.
Bima and Dompu BPBD have also set up posts to distribute aid.
"What the residents urgently need now are ready to food, more personnel to help, communal kitchen, clean water, medicine, and baby clothes,” Sutopo said.
