TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources begins the development of compressed natural gas (CNG) for eastern Indonesia, in a bid to provide every province in the region gas for power generation needs.
Acting director general of Oil and Gas, I Nyoman Gede Wiratmadja, yesterday said the project will be carried by PT PLN (Persero). PLN will buy gas from several state gas companies such as PT Pertamina and PGN, and then take the gas to floating storage and regasification units (FSRU) in each province.
The first project will begin in Pesanggaran, Bali in July. In addition to Bali, generators will be built in South Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua, and West Papua.
