TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives' (DPR) Health Committee is urging the government to amend the law on insurance for migrant workers (TKI). TKI insurance is needed to better protect Indonesians who are working abroad and contributing foreign exchanges revenues to the state.
Committee member Rieke Dyah Pitaloka said the legislator is trying to push the Social Security Agency (BPJS) to include migrant workers in their health and work insurance programs.
Migrant workers' insurance is currently handled by three firms, PT Asuransi Jasa Indonesia, PT Asuransi Adira Dinamika, and PT Asuransi Sinar Mas. According to the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the premium total from TKI insurance had amounted to Rp100 billion as of November 2014.
