TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (PPATK) will create a tight monitoring mechanism for suspicious financial transaction reports submitted to law enforcement agencies. One of those suspicious transaction reports is regarding regional chiefs’ fat bank accounts.

“In accordance with Money Laundering Law, the PPATK has the authority to ask KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission). We will set up a feedback mechanism and monitor the follow-up,” said PPATK deputy chief Agus Santoso on Thursday.

Previously, the PPATK named 20 regional chiefs who have jumbo bank accounts that are suspected to be the results of corruption or bribery. Those names were mentioned in the report submitted to the KPK, the police and the attorney general’s office.

The number increased from the previous report that mentioned 10 regional chiefs with suspicious transaction that totaled to Rp1 trillion. No suspect has been named based on the report.

According to Agus, the PPATK will oversee the investigation of those findings through coordination with the KPK. First, there will be thorough examination and exchange of information. Next, the PPATK and KPK will form a common understanding on the case. They will also work together in provision of information from experts during investigation and trial.

Agus said the PPATK gives two kinds of reports to law enforcement agencies. The KPK receives an analytical report that contains intelligence information such as the modus of transaction. The police and attorney general receive an examination report that has stronger findings than analytical report and comes with evidence.

KPK spokesperson Johan Budi Sapto Prabowo said the KPK is analyzing PPATK’s analytical reports (LHA) on regional chiefs’ fat bank accounts. One of them is suspicious transaction involving former Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo. He confirmed there was unnatural transaction in Fauzi’s account. “LHA is still raw data. We can’t conclude there is a crime based on that. That’s why, the KPK will analyze and investigate first.”
