TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The investment value in the food and beverage sector next year is estimated to reach Rp50 trillion. Adhi S. Lukman, chairman of the Indonesian Association of Food and Beverage Entrepreneurs (Gappmi), said the industry benefits from the rupiah correction against the US dollar.
As of September 2014, the F&B sector investment value reached Rp40 trillion. "As the rupiah depreciates, foreign investors become more aggressive in bringing money into Indonesia," he said in Jakarta, yesterday.
However, Adhi said, the recent rupiah downtrend has also been detrimental to the industry, since producers get 60 percent of raw materials—such as sugar and corn—from imports. As of today, the national F&B production is still dominated by large-scale companies (85 percent), while small and medium enterprises only account for 15 percent.
