TEMPO.CO, Surakarta - The Tourism Ministry seeks to boost the number of foreign tourists to Indonesia up to 20 million by 2019.
"We are conducting approaches to all embassies in Indonesia," said Ahman Sya, the ministry's director general for art and culture-based creative economy, on Thursday, November 27, 2014.
The government is especially targeting tourists originated from China, Japan and South Korea. On Thursday, counselors from China were invited to the Indonesia Umbrella Festival, which will be held on November 28 to November 30 in Surakarta.
Ahman said that there are four main destinations offered to travelers, which are Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bali and Bandung. "We also offer other interesting places," he said.
He also asked regional governments to preserve tourist attractions or hold events that can attract tourists. "We also need supports from academics, businessmen and communities to help bring in foreign tourists to Indonesia," he said.
