TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy for the Infrastructures Affairs of the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Deddy Priatna said that the government is planning to build 50 reservoirs in the next five years.
The budget for the construction of those reservoirs is estimated to reach Rp5 to 6 trillion but it will not be shouldered by the government alone.
"The government alone cannot build those reservoirs,” he said on Friday, September 7, 2014.
Deddy added that Indonesia currently has 261 reservoirs and the country needs at least 460 reservoirs with the size of Jatilihur reservoir in West Java in order to accommodate 1 billion cubic meter of water.
"The reservoirs will be used for irrigation, industries, drinking water, and power plant,” he added.
Deddy further said that those reservoirs are constructed to meet the demand for 1975 cubic meter of water per capita per year.
"Today, the reservoirs that Indonesia have were only able to store 54 cubic meter of water per capita per year," he said.
