Newmont Finalizes Renegotiation Principles

2 September 2014 21:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara said it had discussed all of the contract renegotiation principles, as stated in the law of mineral and coal, to be agreed upon with the government. Newmont president director Martiono Hadianto said he would agree to the six principles of the contract renegotiation.

“Thank God, all of the [renegotiation] principles were discussed this afternoon,” Martiono said at Mineral and Coal Directorate General on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.

According to Martiono, the results of the talks with the mineral and coal director general will be reported to Energy and Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Susilo Siswoutomo. Susilo, who also serves as the chief of Mining Contract Renegotiation Team, will also report the results to Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Chairul Tanjung.

However, Martiono refused to detail the meeting's results. The former state-owned oil and gas Pertamina chairman said the renegotiation agreement was a follow up of the talks in January 2014, which was postponed when Newmont filed a lawsuit against the government with the International Arbitration.

Martiono also refused to specify the export volume. However, ,mineral and coal director general R. Sukhyar said Newmont would export 200,000 tons of copper concentrates starting this week.
