TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has become the most searched on the Internet. The militant group recently released a video of the murder of US journalist James Foley.
As quoted from Channel 4 on Wednesday, searches with the keyword ISIS are ten times faster than al Qaeda, al Shabaab and Taliban. According to Google Trends, ISIS has hit the 100 mark in the latest search data for August.
"Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart. If at most 10 percent of searches for the given region and time frame were for "pizza," we'd consider this 100. This doesn't convey absolute search volume,” said Google.
In order to search for news about ISIS. users search on Google use keywords such as "Pakistan Islamic State", "Islamic State news", and "Iraq Islamic State".
ISIS is also a popular topic on twitter. Tweets about ISIS have increased since July 22. As ISIS committed more harmful actions, the tweets about the group have reached 40,000 since August 17.
