TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Thousands of Prabowo-Hatta supporters are congregating in the vicinity of the Constitutional Court (MK) on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, forcing employers to send their employees home early to anticipate possible rioting as the MK gears up to announce its ruling on the election result dispute case.
"Our office told employees to leave the area at 1 p.m. because of the demonstration," said Amelia, an employee of Skyby One, which is located on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat.
Those employed at the Indosurya Building on Jl. MH Thamrin are doing the same. Building security staff Erwin Hutabarat told Tempo that most employees went home immediately after their lunch break, adding that the company had informed its employees about the half-day policy yesterday.
However, many employees could not go home as Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat and Jl. MH Thamrin are now off-limits to motorists and public transports alike.
"Usually, I take a TransJakarta bus towards Bendungan Hilir, but now that a route diversion is in effect, I don't know how I am going to get home as the street is completely devoid of traffic," said Amelia, who had walked from her office towards Sarinah to find public transportation, to no avail.
This afternoon, the MK is slated to announce its ruling on the presidential election result dispute case. Since early this morning, crowds of people, mainly supporters of the Prabowo-Hatta presidential ticket, have gathered at the National Monument (Monas) intersection in Central Jakarta.
