TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Norway national team shocked the world with its decision to call upon a 15-year-old junior player Martin Odegaard for the senior squad. Odegaard was called upon in a friendly against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) next week. Playing or not, Odergaard has set a new history as the youngest Norwegian player, possibly also the youngest in the entire Europe, to be called upon senior team.
Odegaard’s inclusion in the senior team followed his success in local club Stromsgodset, member of Norwegian League. The youngster has scored 3 goals in the last 14 matches. Such achievement, given the young age, has driven national team manager Per-Mattias Hogmo to call the player.
Prior to national team sensation, Odegaard has captivated a lot of names, including from European top clubs such as Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, PSG and Ajax.
Odegaard’s stint in the national team might be his entrance to professional football in European soil.
