TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of Sekadau Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPDB), Akhmad Suryadi, said that three hotspots were detected spreading in the Sekadau Regency, West Kalimantan Province, during the past week.
“The three hotspots were detected from NOAA satelite imaging,” Akhmad said as quoted by ANTARA News.
Data from Sekadau BPDB showed that one hot spots was spotted on Tuesday in Sekadau Hulu district, and two others were spotted on Wednesday Belitang Hulu district.
According to Suryadi, the fire sources were from the fire started in farmland or shifting cultivation.
“It is suspected that the land was purposely burnt by the people to open the farmland,” Akhmad added.
The fire had been put down but his side will continue to collaborate with the district administration to prevent it happen again in the future.
“The fire extinguishing could only condcted through land. Therefore we expect the land unit of the fire fighters to continue standby,” said Akhmad.
In the last few days, thin smog started to shroud Pontianak especially during the morning and night times.
