TEMPO.CO, New York - World’s number one Serena Williams is back on the first seed for the 2014 US Open tournament. The two consecutive US Open champion will be defending her title in the tournament that kicked start on August 25 in Flushing Meadows, New York, United States.
The world's number one and two, Li Na and Simona Halep, are listed along with 100 other women’s tennis players in the tournament. Two players, 82-ranked Alisa Kleybanova of Russia and 90-ranked Haitian American Victoria Duval have pulled themselves out due to injury.
Eight of sixteen players to enter the qualification round on August 19 to 22 will be awarded a wild card to join the tournament.
Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, are already listed to play on the main round together with nine other players such as Sloane Stephens, Madison Keyd and Coco Vandeweghe.
