TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Suryamin, predicted that inflation rate in July will not experience significant increase if prices continue to stay stable one week before Eid al-Fitr. "We hope that there will be no significant [price] jump during the last week before Eid," said Suryamin yesterday.
Sasmito Hadi Wibowo, Deputy Chief of Distribution and Service Statistics at the BPS, said that the inflation rate in July 2014 will be under one percent although in his previous statement, he said that the inflation rate will be more than one percent.
Sasmito said that the market operations carried out by Chairul Tanjung, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, has managed to generate a positive psychological effect for traders. "So [traders] will not raise prices randomly," he said.
He also said that the presidential election has no significant effect on inflation rate. In addition, Sasmito praised President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for calling both presidential candidates to calm the people.
