TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Euis Saedah, director general of small and medium enterprises at the Industry Ministry, is targeting small industries' exports to grow by nine percent to US$21.34 million. According to Euis, the target will be supported by the high number if production volume and the sales value of entrepreneurs' creativity.
Indonesia's small industry comprised of 3.9 million companies that absorb 10.3 million workers. Last year, the exports value of small industries reached US$19.58 million, with a production value of Rp753 trillion that accounted for 10 percent of the national GDP.
Euis said the actual export potential of small industry products could be greater than the data recorded by the government. This, she said, is because there are many companies marketing their products overseas via small packages or through international exhibitions.
Countries that are the national small industry's main export destinations are the United States, Australia, Germany, and Singapore.
To compete in the global market, the Industry Ministry aims to focus on the development of SMEs, mainly those producing F&B, fashion, ceramics, and crafted goods.
