TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jasa Marga Operational Director Hasanudin said the traffic volume at Jakarta-Cikampek toll road has overloaded. He said that Jasa Marga had installed a weighbridge for vehicles entering the 83-kilometer toll road.
“The weighbridge didn’t last for two weeks,” Hasanuddin said during the opening of Jakarta Outer Ring Road W2 on Monday, July 21, 2014.
The road damage was because too many large vehicles, such as container and trailer trucks, passing the toll road.
He said the traffic overload occurred at toll roads connecting Jakarta, Bekasi and other cities in North Java Coastal (Pantura) region. Hasanuddin said the maximum weight that can be taken by the weighbridge was 20 tons, while the many passing vehicles weighed 40 tons.
In addition to damaging the roads, traffic overload pose a threat for toll road users, particularly when the heavy-weight vehicles run faster than other smaller vehicles.
