Bill Gates Donates Rp451 Billion to Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Microsoft Corp CEO and the wealthiest man in the world, Bill Gates, visited Indonesia on Saturday, April 5. In Jakarta, he was scheduled to meet eight entrepreneurs and plan to donate for social activities.
According to Dato Sri Tahir, Mayapada Group CEO and Gates' associate, he donated US$40 million or approximately Rp451 billion to Global fund that is presided over by Coordinating People's Welfare Minister, Agung Laksono.
Meanwhile, the eight entrepreneurs will each donate US$5 million. The funds will also be donated to Global Fund. "So, the total amount of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs' donations is equivalent with Bill Gates'," he told Tempo.
Tahir said from the total donation of US$80 million, 75 percent of it will be used for Indonesia and the rest for global polio eradication programs. For Indonesia, the donations will be used in four sectors, which are, malaria, TBC, dengue fever eradication, and to promote family plan.
