TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Blackberry had the opportunity to enter the tablet market by launching Playbook some time ago. Unfortunately, the product quietly drowned. During an interview with Pocket-lint, BlackBerry’s Vice President of global product management, Francois Mahieu said they still have the intention to once again produce another tablet. "However, we won't do it in the near future," he said.
BlackBerry PlayBook was launched almost three years ago. However, its launch had garnered bad reviews and even brought the company into bankruptcy. With new challenges and CEO, John Chen, the mobile company does not close off the possibility to return to the tablet market.
"I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a meeting one day and I show you a tablet. We have equity in that space, but we’re not ready. We need more time," he said.
BlackBerry also has to be careful with consumers' assumptions on PlayBook, which was a letdown. The company also needs to find the right selling strategy in order for them to be able to could compete with other successful manufacturers.
