TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharini believes that the recent death of an African lion named Michael in Surabaya Zoo (KBS) was not an accident.
"I agree that the death was unusual," said Risma to the press yesterday. Risma also believes this incident may be done by certain parties who could not accept the policy that she had applied to the zoo management. On July 2013, Risma had assigned several new directors to replace the old management. The land and assets of the zoo has also been claimed as owned by Surabaya administration. Now, Risma leaves the death case to the Surabaya police office to be investigated.
Michael, the lion, has been found dead with 3-milimeter-diameter wire sling strangling its neck. The wire was functioned as an aid to open and close the lion’s cage. Suspicion arose as the death position was unnatural.
