TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - David Jacobs and Ismu Harinto charmed the spectators at the Universitas Terbuka (UT) Table Tennis Championship yesterday. Jacobs, the bronze medalist in 2012 London Paralympics slammed Ismu Harinto 2-1. Despite losing, Harinto, the Indonesian SEA Games Table Tennis athlete was able to keep up with Jacobs' rapid tempo.
The championship, which will last today, is held by UT in cooperation with Tempo Inti Media Group. Taking place at the UT Convention Center Building, Pondok Cabe, South Tangerang, 242 athletes consisting of school students and athletes under PTMSI division IV and V in Jakarta took part in the the championship.
"Out of more than 200 participants, we will take three winners for each category: Students, Division IV and Division V," said Nuari Hadian, the executive committee representing PT Tempo Impresario. The winner will bring home the total cash prize of Rp14 million.
At the opening ceremony of the championship yesterday, Tian Belawati, the Director of UT hoped that the event will build young athletes qualified for national and international events.
