TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Listed metal mining company Aneka Tambang (IDX: ANTM) announced that the company has reached an agreement with the government of North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi on the district's Mining Concession Permit (IUP). This agreement marks the completion of the overlapping concession issue in Tapunopaka and Bahubulu Island, North Konawe.
The mining concession permit, which covers an area of 6,213 hectares, is planned to be part of a Nickel Pig Iron Project development.
"This agreement will ensure the development plan of a Nickel Pig Iron plant which is one of our major development projects that are part of the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI) for the Sulawesi Corridor," said Antam President Director Tato Miraza said in a release received by Tempo on 19 August.
Antam has a mining permit to explore and exploit nickel at a 14,570-acres concession in North Konawe since 1999. But in 2007, the interim regent of North Konawe, Aswad Solomon, gave 800 acres of concession area to Duta Inti Perkasa Minerals, a company of the Harita Group. The area is located within Antam's exploitation area.
Antam then filed two lawsuits to the Kendari Administrative Court, demanding the cancellation of the regent's decree and asking for a warning to stop all mining activities in Antam's concession to prevent Antam from suffering further losses.
