TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Food and Drug Control Agency (BPOM) will soon release an android-based application to assist consumers to check food products. Through this app, Head of Food and Drug Information Center Rita Endang said consumers can easily check food products before purchasing and consuming it.
“We will launch an app for BPOM testing,” Endang said Tuesday, February 9.
Consumers will only need to enter the product’s registration number or name then the app will notify whether the product is safe to consume.
The app will provide information on product’s marketing authorization number, product’s name, the composition, the industrial houses, and the status. If there is a product that is not listed as a registered product, consumers can contact a call center at 1500 533 directly. BPOM will evaluate and follow-up the complaint.
“From the report, we can later develop it. The app is created so people will be more aware of the products they consume,” said Endang.
Previously, BPOM has conducted a socialization on how to check food products which is known as KIK Check, or by checking the packaging, marketing authorization, and expiration date on packages of the products.
The app has yet launched but Endang says it is available to download and can be used freely. BPOM expects with the release of this app, the people of Indonesia could be a smart consumer.
Besides a call center service, BPOM is also accepting complaints via its Twitter account @halobpom1500533, Facebook account, official web page, or via sms to 08121 9999 533 and email to halobpom@pom.go.id.
