TEMPO.CO, Waterloo-Blackberry manufacturer reported that it had laid off 35 percent of its workforce last week. Based on the information released by Mobilesyrup.com, it said from a number of sources that the job cuts were done in Blackberry headquarters in Waterloo, Canada.
Nearly 1,000 workers lost their jobs. The deepest cuts with of 150 workers were experienced by the BB10 and Devices divisions, according to Engadget.com.
The company also laid off a tiny number of workers from Blackberry’s Sunrise, Florida office, US. The job cut is not a shocking news to the industry, especially when Blackberry market has plummeted in recent years.
Even in 2015, Blackberry that is renown as a device provider and phone system begun transitioning to the Android OS in favor of its BB10 operating system.
Blackberry argued the rumor on the job cuts and that it has since clarified that only 200 people in total from Waterloo and Sunrise will be fired. Among them will be BBM co-founder Gary Klassen.
