State Leaders Arrive in Bali for AIS Forum 2023 Summit

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 21 leaders of island and archipelagic countries and international organizations landed at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali, on Monday, October 9, to attend the Archipelagic and Island State (AIS) Forum 2023 Summit on October 10-11, in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali Province.
In detail, 19 island state leaders attended the Summit, including Bahrain, Marshall Island, Tuvalu, Niue, Maldives, Malta, Saint Lucia, Japan, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, Cyprus, Fiji, Cabo Verde, Madagascar, Micronesia, Suriname, and Samoa. Meanwhile, international organizations that would be present were the Pacific Island Forum (PIF) and the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
They were warmly welcomed directly by top officials of the Indonesian government agencies since arrival at the Airport.
All state guests were welcomed by Cordon Troops from the Military Police under the coordination of the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres). The Balinese traditional dance, the Pendet Dance, also greeted the honorable guests. Pendet dance is usually performed in various religious and traditional ceremonies in the island, especially as a welcoming dance or an offering dance to the gods.
The AIS Forum is a forum for cooperation between island and archipelagic countries around the world that aims to strengthen collaboration to address global problems with four main areas, namely climate change mitigation and adaptation, blue economy, plastic waste mitigation in the sea, and good maritime governance.
The AIS Forum Summit was held to strengthen the AIS Forum's role as a hub for smart and innovative solutions, as well as a platform for mutual cooperation in driving the future agenda of global ocean governance.
