TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The head of the Finance Ministry’s Fiscal Policy Agency, Suahasil Nazara, said he was upbeat the country's demographic bonus would be one of the country’s assets to gain the status of developed nation in 2045.

Besides demographic bonus, he added, other contributing factors were productive ages, urbanization, the number of middle-class citizens, and a more productive service sector.

“This is the reason why Indonesia needs infrastructure, human resources, technology, spatial planning, economic and financial resources, macro and political stability, and legal certainty,” he said in Nusa Dua, Bali, today, during the 8th Annual International Forum on Economic Development and Public Policy (AIFED).

Suahasil, however, said the country still had to tackle several challenges, including deindustrialization, dependency toward commodities, and the fact that industries were still centered on Java Island.

He mentioned the country also needed to better its workers' quality and abilities to adapt to future technology prior to transforming itself into a developed nation in 2045.
