Wealthy Pakpak Bharat Regent Arrested by KPK for Bribery

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) named Pakpak Bharat Regent and Democrat Party member Remigo Yolanda Berutu as a suspect upon accepting bribes for a number of construction projects in the Pakpak Bharat Regency.


According to KPK’s website, Remigo’s wealth reached a total of Rp54 billion on March 23, 2016, when he had just taken office as Pakpak Regent for the second consecutive time. His wealth was mostly in the form of non-movable objects such as lands and houses accumulating to Rp52 billion.


His wealth in his second time on office was a contrast to the time as the region’s regent in 2010, where he reportedly had Rp18.2 billion wealth.


Remigo was arrested in one of KPK’s notorious sting operation with five other individuals in Medan City, Jakarta, and Bekasi from November 17 up to November 18.


In total, KPK arrested 6 people and confiscated Rp550 million cash. The agency has already named three men as suspects which comprise of Remigo, regional state official David Anderson Karosekali, and Hendriko Sembiring from a private company.
