TEMPO.CO, Ubud - The Ubud Writers and Readers Festival will take place on 24-28 October 2018. The agenda on the last day is to present the session for the Indonesian Emerging Writers.

"New writers that appear at this festival can come into contact with the world of international literacy," said the writer Avianti Armand during a media conference in Ubud, Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

This year, the Indonesian Emerging Writers program chose the Bilingual Anthology from Aceh, Yogyakarta, South Kalimantan, and South Sulawesi.

According to Avianti, currently, the competition for young writers will be harder. "Because nowadays, it is easy to be famous, upload [your works] and you can make your own writing to be viral by yourself," Avianti said.

Avianti Armand is a writer, curator and architect. She led the Indonesian curatorial team at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice in 2014. She once received the Equator Literary award for her poetry collection book entitled ‘Perempuan Yang Dihapus Namanya’ (The Woman Whose Name Is Erased) in 2011.

The Ubud Writers and Readers Festival was held since 2004 and was initiated by Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation. This year, the theme is Jagadhita.

"Man's ultimate goal is happiness through good deeds," said Chairman of the Mudra Swari Saraswati Foundation Ketut Suardana.
