TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Bank Negara Indonesia or BNI has decided to withdraw its support for the Meikarta City housing project in Bekasi after the Lippo Group-owned project had allegedly been involved in a bribery case with Bekasi administration.
BNI retail banking Director Tambok P. S. Simanjuntak said that the bank decided to stop distributing housing loans for Meikarta customers until there is a legal certainty for the continuation of the housing project.
“We have decided to stop our apartment ownership loans (KPA) for new clients until the legal proceedings are complete,” said Tambok at the end of last week.
BNI is one of the 12 banks that Meikarta managements claim have signed a deal to provide apartment ownership loans earlier in March.
BNI has also decided to re-evaluate the loans that have been provided to several customers who purchased a property in the Meikarta housing project. “Our team will review them and handle its completion,” he said.
Furthermore, Tambok revealed that BNI has 200 KPA debtors in the Meikarta project that is worth Rp50 billion.
Despite BNI’s worries, Meikarta`s developer Mahkota Sentosa Utama assured that the legal case will not hamper the project’s continuation and will stick to the existing schedule.
