TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Taiwanese government through the Chief Representative of Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia, John C. Chen, handed over US$500,000 aid for the victims of natural disasters in Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi. The aid was sent to the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
“We express the condolences and delivered the concern of President Tsai Ing-wen to the disaster victims in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia,” John said in his speech at the MUI office, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 9, adding that the people of Taiwan also felt empathy to the loss.
The donation was received directly by the MUI Chairman Ma’ruf Amin, witnessed by the ulemas, MUI officials and several Taiwanese businessmen in Indonesia.
In July 2018, the Taiwanese government also provided assistance of US$250,000 to the earthquake victims in Lombok. John hopes that the assistance can ease the burden of the earthquake and tsunami victims in Palu.
