TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati revealed that the losses endured by Indonesia from series of natural disasters accumulated to an annual average of Rp22 trillion. This number does not include the losses of lives killed in the disasters.
“The finance ministry continues to maintain its fiscal ability for mitigation and prevention attempts and rehabilitation and reconstruction processes at disaster-stricken areas,” said Sri Mulyani in her official Instagram account on Monday, October 1.
She revealed that the government is currently developing and perfecting its funding scheme instrument for disaster preventions and mitigations which is expected to assist disaster-stricken areas quickly and more effectively.
The pilot project at the Finance Ministry is to insure government buildings starting from 2019, which is hoped to spread across each and every state-owned item. Sri Mulyani gave additional funds for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) upon handling emergency cases.
